I always make it a point to experience what I write about, certainly the breadth of the web gives us Bedell 1999 Merlotan unlimited source of information but you really have to touch, taste & feel! Hence the Bedell 1999 C Block South Merlot I am sampling as I write this post, what are you drinking? This is sort of an anniversary wine for me considering it was July 30, 1999 when I became the Chef Owner of the Mill House Inn! BTW the Merlot is excellent after 15 years of cellaring, "are you hungry"...

screenshot I was thinking black pepper pan seared local stripped bass with a burnt orange, thyme & red wine glace. Add some grilled cipollini onions, fingerling potatoes, tomatoes and corn! Veggies from Balsam Farms of course! There is a distinct satisfaction gained from traveling the twin forks, shopping at the wineries and farm stands then returning home to cook a wonderful dinner with the best ingredients!screenshot

Saturday August 24 the Wine Enthusiast  is throwing a party at the McCall Vineyard & Ranch in Cutchogue NY. The event Harvest East End celebrates 40 years of wine making and more that 40 vineyards on the East End of Long Island. Forty seems to be the magic number, chin chin to this impressive list 40 Under 40: America's Tastemakers! Wine info is at LIWine & Twin Forks Limousine will take care of the driving and if your still hungry anything  by Keith Luce will make you smile. I think the concept of Prep, Nosh, Meet & Main is inovative and delicious. Go there, eat the food and support this amazing endeavour!

Looking for a post dinner beverage, something local and cool try Rough Rider Bull Moose Three-Barrel Rye from Long Island Spirits. I have enjoyed their Pine Barrens American Single Malt Whiskey immensely and look forward to sampling the Rye. Maybe a Sazerec, but that's a story for another day. Whats your favorite?
