Marlene and I spent Wednesday traveling to Block Island on the Viking Line high-speed ferry. The Viking fleet offers fishing, whale watches and passenger ferry service throughout Montauk, Newport and Narragansett RI. Our boat was the “Superstar.” It was a beautiful day for an excursion to a never before visited spot in the northeast Atlantic. The ferry docks in New Harbor at Champlin's Resort. We had a great day walking along the shoreline, through the village, Island Cemetery and we visited the Block Island Historical Society's museum. Small but very interesting with a focus on the history of sword fishing in and around Block Island.
Dead Eye Dicks was the choice for lunch. We shared Rhode Island style clam chowder, no milk or cream in this style, very tasty, salt and pepper fried calamari and crab cakes. Allagash White and Laugrita IPA were the refreshing beers of choice.
